FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The ‘Thirsty Ears Festival’ is Chicago’s First and Only
Classical Music Street Fest
7/25/2016 – On Saturday, August 13, ACM teams up with 98.7 WFMT to take classical music to the streets with the Thirsty Ears Festival, Chicago’s first street festival to feature exclusively classical music.
Between 1:00 and 4:00 we’ll also have a variety of kid-friendly activities making this one of the city’s most family-friendly street festivals. We hope that this helps introduce classical music to a new generation of young listeners!
“I’ve been talking about doing this for years,” says Seth Boustead, Executive Director of ACM, host of Relevant Tones on 98.7 WFMT and creator of the Thirsty Ears Festival. “Basically it’s the street fest I’ve always wished existed: just like any other street fest except family friendly and everyone listening to classical music.”
On Saturday, August 13 Wilson Street will be closed between Hermitage and Ravenswood, in front of the ACM School of Music, from 1:00 to 8:00 PM. There will be a main stage featuring eight Chicago ensembles and soloists throughout the day and there will also be food trucks, vendor booths and, between 1:00 and 4:00, kid-friendly activities.
“This is exactly the kind of event I’m excited to support in the 47th Ward,” says Alderman Ameya Pawar. “I’m a big fan of classical music and what ACM is doing with their music school, concert series and now with the Thirsty Ears Festival is important for the cultural vitality of the ward and great for the city in general.”
The Thirsty Ears Festival is receiving additional promotional and logistical support from 98.7 WFMT, the Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce, the Ravenswood Neighborhood Association, the North Center Chamber of Commerce, the Lincoln Square Chamber of Commerce, the Ravenswood Art Walk and Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.
More than a thousand people are expected to attend over the course of the day and all performances will be recorded for future broadcast on WFMT. High resolution press photos of ensembles, sound clips and interviews are available upon request.
