ACM’s summer workshops for high school aged composers are now in their tenth year! For ten years young composers have worked with us to create a new piece of music, receive instruction from a professional composer and hear the piece workshopped by professional musicians and then performed and recorded live in a formal concert setting.
Our previous students have gone on to become students at prestigious schools like the Manhattan School of Music, Carnegie Melon, CalTech, Michigan University, Indiana University and many others. This is the only summer workshop in Chicago that gives young people the chance to work with professional composers and performers to create a new piece.
We’re excited this year to announce that the teachers are Ben Hjertmann and David Reminick, both excellent composers and educators with a gift for communicating high level musical concepts to young people. We look forward to a final concert of exciting new works!
