We kicked off our 2006-2007 concert season with Eastern Expressions, the culmination of our first-ever Composer Alive collaboration with an international composer, in this case Beijing composer Xiaogang Ye.
We had the very good fortune to start this project at the same time as Yo-Yo Ma was starting a project called Silk Road Chicago and we were able to become part of that and would eventually get funding from the city, Boeing and United which would allow us to visit Beijing and to bring Xiaogang Ye to Chicago for the final concert.
The final concert also featured music by other renowned living Chinese composers including Zhou Long, Huang Ruo and Chen Yi and two performances by the incredible pipa player Min Xiao-Fen.
