Katherine Young is not only a Composer, but also a bassoonist. She loves to create the tension between familiar and strange in her music, often shifting preconceived norms. Her music has been described as “raw, wailing, coloristic piece” with an “organic sweep.”
Katherine does not only compose music for orchestras, she has also collaborated with choreographers and dancers in order to create new and unique work in New York. Her accomplishments don’t stop there, Katherine leads the quartet Pretty Monsters. Pretty Monsters first record is out on public eyesore. A woman of many talents; composer, bassoonist, and organizer Katherine is not one to miss.
Katherine was commissioned by ACM in 2012 for Open House Chicago.
