Born in Bordeaux in 1953, Stéphane Delplace began playing the piano at a very early age, going on to study seriously between 1973 and 1976. He devoted himself to writing and went through the Paris Conservatoire, at the same time taking up the organ.
This enthusiasm for the piano and organ has created works of art that incorporate both instruments in new provocative ways. At the age of seventeen, he decides to dedicate himself completely to music, and while continuing with his studies of piano and organ, begins to compose.
Stéphane is somewhat of a sensation in France. His work has been regularly premiered in France and in Europe by numerous musicians. He has even had his music heard on the French radio networks France Musique and France Culture. In 2001 he received a prestigious award, the Florent Schmitt prize from the Académie des Beaux-Arts.
Stéphane was the recipient of the 2010 ACM Composer Alive commission for which he wrote the piece Sextet.
