Composer Alive is an innovative commissioning project in which we ask a composer to write a new piece in short installments and perform and record them in front of an audience. We post each installment to our website for the composer, and our online audience to listen to.
The composer can then make changes and start on the next installment. In this way the composer is encouraged to take risks and try out new ideas as he or she can always change them in the next installment.
Begun in 2006 this is now our tenth Composer Alive collaboration. Will Rowe is writing a piece called Commercial Etudes inspired by and incorporating ad jingles from long ago. The first and second installments of the piece were recently performed at Le Poisson Rouge by pianist Blair McMillen.
