Commissions

Integrating Musical Creativity into Everyday Life

Nearly all of ACM’s productions include commissioning new work from composers around the world.  Every year we commission a dozen or more composers to write music for our programs and premiere the pieces on our events in New York, Chicago, Barcelona and Mexico City.

Composers write music for our Composer Alive program, for the Sound of Silent Film Festival, for various Open House projects around the world and for other projects and collaborations as they arise.  Commission fees range between $500 and $5,000 depending on the project.

2017 Commissioning Projects

Composer Alive
Submission Deadline 3/15/2017

Composer Alive is our annual commissioning project in which we work with a composer to write a new piece in short installments.  Each installment is emailed to us as it’s composed and rehearsed and recorded in front of a live audience and posted to our website.  The composer can hear the piece come to life in real time and our audience gets an in-depth look into the creative process.

This year’s Composer Alive is David Smooke

Doors Open Milwaukee

Doors Open Milwaukee is a celebration of the city’s rich architectural legacy.  We commission composers to write music inspired by several of the buildings and place musicians in the spaces to perform the pieces every 15 minutes for guided tours.

Open House Chicago
Submission deadline 8/20/2017

Open House Chicago gives city residents the chance to peek into buildings that are normally closed to the public.  Since its inception in 2011 we’ve commissioned composers to write music inspired by several of the buildings and place musicians in the spaces to perform the pieces every 15 minutes for guided tours.
