We’re thrilled to be partnering with Open House New York to commission four composers to write new pieces as part of the celebrations around the opening of the TWA Hotel at JFK Airport. Designed by legendary architect Eero Saarinen, the TWA Terminal opened to great fanfare in 1962 but closed in 2001.
Luckily it was put on the landmarks list and not torn down and it’s now reopening as a swanky hotel replete with a vintage TWA airplane that’s been converted into a cocktail lounge. ACM has commissioned composers Seth Boustead, Stephanie Ann Boyd, Anthony R. Green and Ed Windels to write music inspired by this building.
Each piece will be performed in the building on June 5 as part of Open House New York’s annual gala and members of the New York City Ballet, Emily Kikta and Peter Thomas are choreographing dance to be performed in conjunction with the music.
This is a private event but the works will be performed again at a public event in September or October to be announced shortly. More information about this project can be found here.
