When ACM first started in 2004 our first program was called Weekly Readings. Our musicians met every week and read through and recorded a new piece by a living composer and posted it to our website.
We’re not crazy enough to do this every week anymore but we are thrilled to have begun a new program, the Discovery Series, with a similar mission in mind.
The Discovery Series is part of Late Night at National Sawdust, a quarterly concert series at National Sawdust in Brooklyn broadcast live on Relevant Tones, the country’s only weekly syndicated radio program featuring contemporary music.
In the two hours before the broadcast, the musicians give a live, public, reading session of up to three works submitted to us in an international call for scores. Some of those works will make it onto future broadcasts as well.
The first one we read, on January 20, 2017, is From Overhead the Sweetness Drives it Crazy by Tyler Gilmore who was also there working the electronics.
