ACM and Strawdog Theatre Company team up again to perform our radio play inspired by stories by legendary Chicago journalist Ben Hecht live on 98.7 WFMT.
In 1921 Hecht came to his editor with a big idea: he would write a short story every day for a year to be published in the Chicago Daily News. The stories would be vignettes of life in Chicago, the lives of the people he observed on the street, in bars and restaurants and on street cars every day.
Incredibly his editor said yes and the stories have become classics with 65 of the best of them anthologized as 1,001 Afternoons in Chicago. We’ve set 6 of the very best of these to a radio play with live music and voices.
Join us on April 6 at 8:00 PM on 98.7 WFMT or www.wfmt.com as we perform this unique, captivating radio play. Music by Seth Boustead and Amos Gillespie, directed by Anderson Lawfer, conducted by Francesco Milioto. Music performed by the Palomar Ensemble with actors from Strawdog Theater.
