About Weekly Readings

Weekly Readings was begun in the 2004-2005 Season to address the growing number of composers who find themselves without available professionals to read and perform their music.

Each week members of ACM and professional guest musicians from the Chicago area meet and conduct a prepared reading of a different new piece of music by a living composer who has submitted a piece to us specifically for this project.

The parts are handed out to the players at least two weeks before the reading session and we generally conduct a short rehearsal before the recording equipment is turned on. Though pieces in all styles will be considered, pieces that require the use of a conductor or extensive preparation will not be considered for a reading although they may still be considered for performance on an ACM concert.

All compositions submitted and read will be considered for future performance on ACM concerts. ACM does not hold exclusive rights to any of the pieces represented here. If you are an ensemble and are interested in performing one of the pieces you hear please email us and we will put you in touch with the composer.

Once the recording is done it will be posted as an audio streaming file to the ACM website. In addition to this we can mail a CD of the recording to the composer for a $10 donation to cover expenses incurred.

If you are a composer and you are interested in having a piece read by ACM please email us here.

Only by hearing his or her music can a composer improve and grow as an artist and only by the writing of new pieces of music can this artform continue to thrive and prosper. Please click on the audio link above to hear the current reading and come back each week!
