Songs About Buildings and Moods

Integrating musical creativity into everyday life

poster_small_newsletterSongs About Buildings and Moods was a unique event that ACM produced in 2010 celebrating Chicago’s amazing architectural legacy, both classic and in the modern era, through newly composed music.

Five landmark buildings in the loop were selected including:

  • Chicago Cultural Center
  • Marquette Building
  • Monadnock building
  • Aqua Tower
  • Aon Building (Bertoia Sculpture)

Composers then wrote music inspired by these beautiful spaces and on Saturday, September 18 2010 we had musicians in each building performing the music throughout the day.  The Chicago Architectural Foundation docents led tours and discussed each building’s architectural importance and the composers were on hand to talk about how the building inspired them and then we played the piece.

The event was a smash hit with over 300 people coming out despite some very heavy thunderstorms.  Chicagoans are tough!  Click on a link below to listen to some of the music.
