Hailed by the New Yorker as “the most vital and eloquent composer in
America,” Pulitzer prize winner John Adams is a towering figure in modern music.

Rooted in minimalism and the American vernacular, with a generous helping of his own off-beat sensibility, Adams has forged a unique and deeply influential musical identity.

New Beginnings Concert Recordings Posted

On December 4th, 2011 MAVerick Ensemble and ACM's Palomar Ensemble teamed up to perform the music of former Chicago Composer's Forum composers.

The concert was organized to commemorate and celebrate the groundbreaking programming and commissioning that CCF was responsible for over its 15 year operation in Chicago.

The concert proved delightfully varied and highly virtuosic. Thanks to everyone that was in attendance, if you couldn't make it give a listen to the recordings below.

Concert Audio for Omar Daniel's Preludes Now Posted

Our 2011 Composer Alive: Toronto project may have come to a close but we still have fond memories and of course we have the concert recording. The highlight of the concert was the World Premiere performance of Omar Daniel's Preludes, eight wonderful, short pieces composed especially for ACM.

Please listen to the pieces below, performed by ACM's performance wing Palomar. We hope you enjoy the music as much as we do!

Video of Open House Chicago Performance Now Posted

ACM was invited to take part in the Chicago Architecture Foundation's stellar event Open House Chicago, featuring 100 overlooked architectural gems throughout the city.

Our member composers wrote music for two of the venues and we chose the Power House Building and the original Sears Tower, both dating from 1905.

Although the Power House is now a high school, it is easy to see it's original function. Composer Eric Malmquist scored his piece for clarinet, French horn and bassoon and had the performers play in front of a giant turbine in what is not the high school's cafeteria.

Composer Alive: Toronto Final Concert this Sunday!

Once each month throughout the summer we would receive an email from Toronto-based composer Omar Daniel with a new installment of a piece he was writing for ACM.

Members of our performance wing Palomar met to record each installment in front of a live audience and then the sound files were posted to our website along with comments from the composer on his creative process.

Virtual audience members came to the site to listen to the installments, read Omar's comments, and watch the new work take shape from month to month.

ACM Composers Represented at Open House Chicago

ACM has partnered with the Chicago Architecture Foundation to provide newly composed music for two of the spaces in their Open House Chicago project.

ACM member composers Amos Gillespie and Eric Malmquist have written new music inspired by two sites from the former Sears office complex dating back to 1905.

Music will be performed live at the top of the original Sears Tower, not the current tower now called the Willis tower, this is the original tower built in 1905. Although the tower is in disrepair it still provides stunning views and has a fascinating history.
