Richard L. Ortiz is a Chicago-land freelance composer, guitarist, and teacher. Rich's music has been called fresh and exciting and he has recieved several honors, awards, and commissions. In his compositions, Rich tries to marry the aggressiveness and excitement of heavy metal, punk rock, and electronica with the precision and finesse of the chamber ensemble.

Rich earned an MM in composition from the Chicago College of Performing Arts where he studied with Dr. Stacy Garrop and a BM in composition from Valparaiso University where he studied with Dr. Dennis Friesen-Carper.
