Weekly Readings was begun in the 2004-2005 Season to address the growing number of composers who find themselves without available professionals to read and perform their music.

Each week members of ACM and professional guest musicians from the Chicago area meet and conduct a prepared reading of a different new piece of music by a living composer who has submitted a piece to us specifically for this project.

Guidelines and Relevant Info:

  • Scores should be for some combination of the following instruments: flute, clarinet, French horn, saxophone, violin, viola, cello, bass, piano and hand percussion. We do not have access to keyboard percussion at this time.
  • Though pieces in all styles will be considered, pieces that require the use of a conductor or extensive preparation will not be considered for a reading although they may still be considered for performance on an ACM concert.
  • Reading session typically last two hours. For pieces that cannot be performed at high artistic quality within two hours, we will post an excerpt.
  • Weekly Readings performers are not necessarily comprised from ACM's resident ensemble Palomar. They often consist of talented freelancers in Chicago who believe in the project's mission.
  • Readings will remain on our site for only one week. If you would like your reading to remain indefinitely you must become a member composer.
  • A copy of the recording may be had by becoming a member composer
  • By submitting a piece to us you are giving us the right to read and record it and post it to our website. ACM does not hold exclusive rights to any of the pieces submitted for Weekly Readings.
