Alicia Poot Flute
Flutist Alicia Poot has performed with various groups in the Great Lakes region. Originally from Michigan, her orchestral career has included work with the Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Southwest Michigan, and Northwest Indiana Symphonies as well as Michigan’s Pine Mountain Music Festival, and also plays regularly with the Lira Ensemble in Chicago.
As a chamber musician, in addition to Palomar she has performed with Anaphora and International Chamber Artists in Chicago, the Akron New Music Ensemble, and co-founded an innovative ensemble, Portico, while in Akron.
A winner or finalist in several competitions, she has also performed in summer festivals in Canada and Italy: Orford Arts Centre, Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific, and the Rome Festival in addition to having performed in master classes with the legendary Julius Baker.
She has studied at DePaul University, The University of Akron (MM), Western Michigan University (BM), and The Catholic University of America with Mary Stolper, George Pope, Christopher Kantner, Christine M. Smith, and Alice Weinreb.
She is a faculty member at Merit School of Music in Chicago and also administrates for Merit’s community outreach program, “Bridges: Partners in Music,” which delivers music instruction to approximately 70 schools and community centers throughout Chicago, primarily to underserved communities.
In good weather she can often be seen riding her bike on the lakefront path or around the city.
