Born in Bordeaux in 1953, Stéphane Delplace began playing the piano at a very early age, going on to study with Pierre Sancan between 1973 and 1976. He devoted himself to writing and went through the Paris Conservatoire, at the same time taking up the organ.

His work has been regularly premiered in France and in Europe by numerous musicians including Pierre-Alain Volondat, Jean-Louis Caillard, Giancarlo Crespeau, Bertrand Chamayou the Patterson Duo, Emmanuel Boulanger and many others.

In 2000 his Préludes & Fugues dans les Trente Tonalitiés was performed by 11 pianists in Paris to great success and Mr. Delplace was asked to join the group Phoenix , founded by Thierry Escaich with the aim of presenting contemporary music in venues outside of academic settings.

Mr. Delplace’s music has been heard on the French radio networks France Musique and France Culture and in 2001 he received the Florent Schmitt prize from the Académie des Beaux-Arts.

Mr. Delplace is especially known for his works incorporating the piano and organ and his works include De Sibilla, Odi et amo for chorus and organ, Concert pour cordes for violin and string orchestra, Variations in the key of G for solo cello, 14 Klavierstucke, Marche funebre, Piano Concerto and many more.

Mr. Delplace currently resides in Paris and teaches at the Paris Conservatoire.
