Jeffrey Hoover's compositional work has received recognition through the Triesté prize, awards from Mu Phi Epsilon, grants, fellowships, other prizes and over 20 commissions. He is a member of the ACME roster of Mu Phi Epsilon, recognized for distinguished achievement in composition.

One aspect of Hoover's work has been the creation of interdisciplinary art, combining his original paintings with his music.

He holds a Ph.D. in Fine Arts (composition and interdisciplinary fine arts) from Texas Tech University. His Master of Music in Composition and Musicology and his Bachelor of Science in Music Education are from Ball State University.
