ACM believes strongly in fostering the creation of new music at all levels through commissions. In fact we commission more new pieces each year than most any other contemporary music organization out there.
With commissioned projects in cities like Barcelona, Chicago, Galway, Milwaukee, New York and Seoul we commission dozens of composers each year.
We are committed to working with a wide range of composers around the world, from established names to lesser known highly trained composers to students of all ages.
Below is a description of our current programs and commissions. To submit music for consideration to any of these programs please contact us.
A commissioning program in which a composer works with an ensemble somewhere in the world to write a new piece in installments. Each installment is performed and recorded by the ensemble as the composer writes it and posted to the ACM website. The composer can experiment, try new things and get to know the ensemble as she writes the piece. Upon completion the ensemble then performs gives the world premiere of the piece.
Late Night at National Sawdust
A collaboration with Open G Records and National Sawdust in Brooklyn, this is a series of new music readings and a live concert broadcast on Relevant Tones, the country’s only syndicated radio program dedicated to contemporary music. Winning compositions may also be considered for release on Open G Records.
Open House began in London as a celebration of architecture but has since spread to dozens of other cities worldwide. ACM currently works with Open House projects in Barcelona, Chicago and Milwaukee. Composers are commissioned to write a new piece for one of the landmark buildings and musicians are present the day of the event to perform the piece every 15 minutes for tours of people.
Sound of Silent Film
One of first programs, the Sound of Silent Film Festival features newly commissioned scores performed live to modern silent films. It currently takes place in Chicago and New York and is a wildly popular event.
