Composer Alive: Ireland is a collaboration between Accessible Contemporary Music in Chicago and composer Jane O'Leary in Galway Ireland. Throughout the Summer of 2007 Jane will write a piece in four installments and email each installment to ACM. We will record each installment at the Chicago Cultural Center as she writes it and then post it to our site.

Each posting will contain revisions and new ideas and the overall development of the piece will become more clear as it grows until it is finally finished. In this way audiences can listen to a piece of music from its initial sketch, through its revisions to the final product.

We will post comments from the composer for each installment about her creative process and comments from the performers about the practical aspects of putting the piece together. We feel that by allowing an audience to get inside the composer's mind as she's creating a new piece it provides a frame of reference for the finished product and demystifies the process.

Jane O'Leary's travel to Chicago is supported by Culture Ireland and a commission for the new work is supported by The Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon, the Irish government agency for developing the arts.
